Twitter

Expanding Media for More

Overview

Twitter is an open service that’s home to a world of diverse people, perspectives, ideas, and information. True to being fast, free, and fun, I redesigned Twitter's media feature to enable users quickly and easily navigate media content on what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. The redesign was made to include newly introduced features, such as Spaces, and explores possible applications of NFTs on the platform.

Pinned Media

On Grid view, users can pin up to 4 media posts so they appear at the very top of their respective pages. This provides a channel for digital & visual artists to showcase preferred works such as NFTs, paintings, and graphical designs. This also provides an avenue for brands to create aesthetically pleasing media pages which may serve e-commerce on Twitter, as retailers are able to catalog their products for users to find easily. The "Pinned" indicator logo was designed to be visible on virtually every background, irrespective of color, but also transparent to allow users to experience the fullness of the beauty of the artist's work.

Switch to Explore

Twitter Media allows users to choose how they explore media content through the power of "Switch". This feature enables users to toggle between a Grid and a List view. Using the grid view, users are able to find media content faster, while the list view allows users to explore media content as tweets, as they currently do.

Fun with

Non-Fungible Tokens

In January 2022, Twitter announced its intention to bring NFTs to the timeline, by allowing owners to update theirs as profile pictures. Identifiable by hexagonally shaped profile pictures, users with NFTs can link their blockchain/crypto wallets to their Twitter profiles, allowing other users to verify that their tokens are of the non-fungible variety.

I designed Twitter media to include the verification of NFTs on the timeline. Assets may be shared from users' crypto wallets directly to the timeline as tweets and are identifiable by the NFT tag, which only appears over NFTs linked to crypto wallets with the assets' verifiable address.

Inspired by Twitter's approach to NFTs, the design decision for the NFT tag was informed by Twitter's hexagonal NFT verified profile pictures. Similar to the media pin, the tag is designed to be visible on every background irrespective of color, but also transparent to allow users experience the wholeness of the shared NFT.

Explore Spaces

Twitter Media enables users to save and easily browse through catalogues of recorded spaces. The host of a recorded space may save their recordings for up to 280 days to allow other users listen to them. The Space Rec name was coined from "Space Recordings" and the visual design of the name-logo was inspired by the recording indicator visible in recorded live spaces.

Bookmarked at Left Swipe

Personally, the bookmark feature is one of my favorite things about Twitter. With sooo much information on the timeline, sometimes you just want someplace to store a few you may be interested in reading later. Very convenient, to say the least. To conclude this project, and in line with Twitter's Ideology of being fast, free, and fun, I redesigned how users on the timeline may bookmark a tweet by swiping left.
